If God is loving, why is there suffering? What´s the difference between permitting something and ordaining it? When bad things happen, who´s behind them, God or the Devil? When suffering touches our lives it often doesn´t make sense, especially when we believe in a loving and just God. In this poignant audiobook, Joni Eareckson Tada, a quadriplegic for over 30 years, describes her personal experience with suffering and provides her special understanding of God´s intentions for us in our pain. The author reveals a God big enough to understand our suffering, wise enough to allow it, and powerful enough to use it for a greater good than we can ever imagine. 1. Language: English. Far from being ´´the quiet one,´´ George Harrison was a writer and arranger of terrific power and beauty, and his guitar playing was fundamental to the Beatles´ sound and success. Now fully revised and expanded, this new edition of While My Guitar Gently Weeps: The Music of George Harrison is the most comprehensive evaluation of George Harrison´s musical career ever published. Treating each of Harrison´s songs with unprecedented analysis, author Simon Leng reveals Harrison´s eclectic approach from teenage Nashville twang through Indian raga, psychedelia, gospel, soul, and pure pop and thoroughly defines Harrison´s role in the Beatles. First-hand accounts of the Concert for Bangladesh and the making of All Things Must Pass take the reader deep into the most fertile and controversial periods of Harrison´s long solo career that culminated with Brainwashed. Enhanced with insights from key figures who worked closely with Harrison throughout his extraordinary career, While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a remarkably stirring study and portrait of a great artist whose musical and spiritual quest changed the lives of millions of people around the world while redefining popular music and rock ´n´ roll. 1. Quan Barry´s luminous fiction debut brings us the tumultuous history of modern Vietnam as experienced by a young girl born under mysterious circumstances a few years before the country´s reunification, a child gifted with the otherworldly ability to hear the voices of the dead. At the peak of the war in Vietnam, a baby girl is born along the Song Ma River on the night of the full moon. This is Rabbit, who will journey away from her destroyed village with a makeshift family thrown together by war. Here is a Vietnam we´ve never encountered before: Through Rabbit´s inexplicable but radiant intuition, we are privy to an intimate version of history, from the days of French Indochina and the World War II rubber plantations through the chaos of postwar reunification. With its use of magical realism - Rabbit´s ability to ´´hear´´ the dead - the novel reconstructs a turbulent historical period through a painterly human lens. This is the moving story of one woman´s struggle to unearth the true history of Vietnam while simultaneously carving out a place for herself within it. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Lulu Lam. ´´Whether by design or by chance,´´ Terryl and Fiona Givens write, ´´we find ourselves in a universe filled with mystery. We encounter appealing arguments for a Divinity that is a childish projection, for prophets as scheming or deluded imposters, and for scripture as so much fabulous fiction. But there is also compelling evidence that a glorious Divinity presides over the cosmos, that His angels are strangers we have entertained unawares, and that His word and will are made manifest through a sacred canon that is never definitively closed. What we choose to embrace, to be responsive to, is the purest reflection of who we are and what we love. That is why faith, the choice to believe, is in the final analysis, an action that is positively laden with moral significance.´´ As humans, we are, like the poet John Keats, ´´straining at particles of light in the midst of a great darkness.´´ And yet, the authors describe a version of life´s meaning that is reasonable - and radically resonant. It tells of a God whose heart beats in sympathy with ours, who set His heart upon us before the world was formed, who fashioned the earth as a place of human ascent, not exile, and who has the desire and the capacity to bring the entire human family home again. 1. It´s difficult being young and in love when your dad is a high-ranking official in Ceausescu´s Communist machine, your mother weeps all the time, and your brother is trying to kill you. Once there was a woman who had both a daughter of her own, whom she loved, and a stepdaughter, whom she hated. One day, the woman ordered her husband to take her stepdaughter out into the winter fields and leave her there to die, and he obeyed. Morozko finds her there; she is polite and kind to him, so he gives her a chest full of beautiful things and fine garments. After a while, her stepmother sends her father to bring back the girl´s body to be buried, which he also does. After a while, the family dog says that the girl is coming back, and that she is beautiful and happy. When the stepmother sees what her stepdaughter has brought back, she orders her husband to take her own daughter out into the fields. Unlike before, this child is rude to Morozko, and he lets her freeze to death. When her husband goes out to bring her back, the dog says that she will be buried. When the father brings back the body, the old woman weeps. Please note: This audiobook is in Russian. 1. Russian.
